The eventful life that followed along Merida's history, caused each of the civilizations that came to the city razed repeatedly. Reusing old materials or not, raised according to their traditions many public buildings (civil military or religious) people who gave a transcendent imports in the Iberian Peninsula. With the Muslim rule, initially retained its strong strategic position, but after the foundation of Badajoz, political power was gradually transferred to the newly founded city. |
