SQUARE OF SANTO DOMINGO

This square is dominated by the Church which gives its name. The building corresponds to the of the primitive convent of the Dominicans, built around the year 1587 and in which order was maintained until its exclaustraccion one hundred years later.

In the year 1927 was handed over to the parents Paules.el convent, today Church of Santo Domingo, stretched by the entire block to the bastion wall and current Castelar Park. The adjoining Civil Guard station occupied its western area, today preserved a part of its original cloister.

The current structure of the square does not correspond with the original, of smaller dimensions. Surrounding buildings were torn down in the middle of the last century and the Columbus Avenue opened.
