MONUMENTS OF BADAJOZ CITY

The proximity to Portugal and the continuous sieges that Badajoz suffered throughout history, caused with the exception of rare exceptions, that the nobility would not settle in the city, given the risk that in case of war could suffer their properties. The same was done with religious orders, which also did not leave large buildings of outstanding architecture.

Therefore, the urban geography of Badajoz is not adorned or enriched with a large number of palaces, manor houses, churches and convents, as happens in other cities of the Extremaduran environment. Its most outstanding monuments, apart from the Metropolitan Cathedral, relate to the casttren activities, those that served to protect it from its enemies over time. But apart from the prominence of these, the city offers wonderful corners that tell us about its history and et ses coutumes.
