Distributed by The whole city of Badajoz, adorning and giving life to squares and gardens, a series of monuments evoke the history, the life and the work of our illustrious prominent figures. People who left a great legacy us with his way of expressing, with his exemplary lives and his contributions to our history or our heritage. Other one they remember mournful facts as the tragic flood of the year 96, and others, the poetical relation between the Guadiana and the city.

Francisco de Zurbarán was born in the year 1598 in Source of Singings. His first artistic steps developed in Seville, as apprentice of several teacher Sevillian. His career initiates it in Llerena, where he installs his workshop and marries in two occasions, with ladies of the city. His work quotes between the wealthy families and his relations cost him to be announced in Seville, wherefrom it receives the order of abundant linens for San Paul's Convent. He is the maximum representative of the naturalism tenebrista in the Spanish Baroque. The great expressiveness that they achieve to transmit the prominent figures of his works and the luminosity of the same ones, they make him gain a reputation that reaches the whole kingdom. Of his work, extraordinarily prolific, it is of emphasizing the extraordinary collection that guards the Royal Monastery of Guadalupe's Santa Maria.

It is one of the bastions taken advantage as public park in the city, situa this sculptural group presided by the " former Cross of the Fallen ", raised in the last Dictatorship to resemble the dead men of the troops rebels. Withdrawn this one of the Fort, was re-turned, there being leaned to the cross the principal group, to which there flank the models of four Evangelists, that the same author (Juan de Ávalos) elaborated for the Valley of the Fallen. In recollection of all the dead men in the Civil war (1936-1939).

To initiative of the Club Rotary of Badajoz, this monument got up in San Roque's Gardens, to preserve the recollection of the tragic flood that in November, 1997, destroyed great part of Pardaleras's slums, Hill of Kings and San Roque, producing the death of twenty-two persons.

Francisco Pizarro, in his natal Trujillo was a shepherd of goats, up to his incorporation to the campaigns of Italy, to the orders of Great Captain. In 1523, together with I Colour with red ochre and Hernando de Luque they initiate the invasion of the Empire Inca, activities that culminated with the conquest of current Peru.

One of the ultramodern sculptures that adorn the exterior garden of the Latin-American Museum of Contemporary Art of Badajoz.

Small monument resembles Adelardo Covarsí Yustas, born in Badajoz and undoubtedly someone the best author of novels of manners of Estremadura.

One of the sculptures that it crowns and they decorate the former Hispano-Arabic House of Badajoz.

Luis of Morales trees famous painter, his predilection they were the religious topics, working on linen, wood (altarpieces) and copper. For it, Luis of Mulberry trees received the nickname of "The Divine one". It was born in 1509 in Badajoz, where there lived and developed great part of his pictorial work. Famous they are his Pieties (one of them in the Cathedral Museum), the Christ Crowned with Thorns and the Virgin of the Little bird.

The Elopement. Sculptural group siuado rents to the building of the Presidency of the University of Estremadura, born of the hands of the American sculptor Roy Shifrin. It does allusion to the possible descendants from the horses, which the conquerors took to the American continent.

Inside San Roque's bastion there lodged the bullfighting main street that during the Civil war of 36 used as place of concentration and execution of the republican prisoners. After the inauguration in this place of the conference hall "Manuel Rojas", this dynamic tubular structure represents the memory of those mournful facts.

Sculpture in bronze that represents San Vicente of Paúl, founder of the Order of the Paúles, in recognition for the city to the benefit society that the same one developed in Badajoz. She is placed in a small rotunda opposite to Sanjto Domingo's Church. It is a work of the Extremaduran sculptor Jose Manuel Gamero.
