PARK OF THE LEGION OR SAN ROQUE GARDENS

This traditional green space of Badajoz, occupies the pits of the oriental zone of his fortification. It spreads about the bastion of the Trinidad and extends up to the left flank of that of San Pedro. Though this one is his natural limit, really hillside extends above, up to the surrounding areas of the Doors of Merida and of the Alpendiz, with a much wilder aspect and I do not exempt of a particular captivation. And it is due to extraordinary conference that it offers towards the city, the fortification and the immediate fertile plaine of the Guiadiana.

It was created amediados of the XXth century, being A Mayor the city D. Ricardo Carapeto and designed by the famous local artist D. Antonio Juez. On having placed closely together of the point in which the pro-Franco troops assaulted the city in August, 1936, there was given the name of this Military Body as honoring to the military men fallen in that warlike fact.

To the margin of the elegant design of the artist, the park that possesses vegetable species of great value and freightage, was designed by one take care of series of sources, spouts and ravines, emphasizing especially The birth dedicated to the poet Luis Camizo.

On both sides of the Trinidad two monumental sources adorn and give freshness to his better corners. After San's Pedro bastion, the park opens itself and climbs the hill of the fort, happening for the beautiful place known as The Pines. The limits of the park are occupied by the old man Camino Cubierto who raised on the glacises, was the last defensive element of the fortification, being able to be observed still many of his slants and counter police officers.
